Music with Maria: My Top 5 Epilepsy Warrior Songs

Author: Maria Martinez

Hey guys! I hope you all are doing great. I know during this time it can get stressful especially with us warriors. I was digging through some of my music on my playlist and I thought, why not share some of the music that helps get through stressful and tough times!

Here are some of my some of my top five songs I listen too to push my through my epilepsy.

My first song is one of my favorites. I even played this for the talent show. I kinda freaked out a bit but someone came up to me and sang with me. The song was “Fight Song”  by Rachel Platten. This song really pushed me to try my best! I even learned how to play it on the guitar. I may be a little rusty though, I’ll have to pick up the guitar soon and see if I can still hit all the notes. I really recommend you listen to this song because this isn’t just a song to make you dance and laugh but a song to calm you down from anything your worrying about, and during this time we may need this song even more.

Another song that’s another one of my favorites is “Sun comes up” by Rudimental (featuring James Arthur). This song really calms me down. Sometimes I would have some episodes where I would want to give up and just not try anymore, but when I play this song, it makes me think and calms me down. I’ve gotten much much better now.

I think that music has calmed me down and let my focus on the positive and ignore or block out the negative.

Yes there are more amazing songs! Not only has this next song calmed me down, but sometimes you just need to dance it out and forget about what’s bothering you. Now don’t call me cheesy but the song is “The Climb” which was written by Jessi Alexander and most famously performed by Mylie Cyrus. Yup – that’s right – this song is from Hannah Montana.

Fact is I was in love with this movie when I was little. Hannah Montana was like everything to me. She is why I started playing guitar in the first place. Well sometimes I would just plug in my headphones and dance to this song till I can’t feel my legs!

Now this next song just puts a bright smile on my face. The song is called “Ride” by Twenty One Pilots. This song has a nice beat and makes me just smile and dance I don’t know what I would do without this song. This song will just drive your negative emotions away. I just love it! The first time I heard it was in my dads best friends car it was when I wasn’t feeling to alright and the song just started playing. Ever since that day I’ve always played it.

Now sadly to the last song (for this round at least). Like the others this one really helped me the most! This song make a me really pumped and ready for what ever comes at me. The song is “Good as Hell” by Lizzo. She’s really powerful and makes me wanna dance all day which helps me take my mind of epilepsy and the life of an epilepsy warrior.

All of the songs above help me, maybe they will help you too. Whatever you’re going through right now with your epilepsy journey, remember this: “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think.” (AA Milne, author of Winnie The Pooh). First time I heard that I smiled. Just keep that in mind guys and remember, stay safe!
