Purple day in Kazakhstan

On March 5, 2019 The Purple Day dedicated to the increase of awareness about epilepsy was held at the Children’s City Hospital №2, Astana. The event was organized by the Neurology departments of Children’s City Hospital №2 and Astana Medical University, headed by Professor of the Department Jaxybayeva A. On this day, doctors and residents of the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation consulted children with epilepsy and their parents.
More than 30 children were examined. Most of the children were in the older age groups and have never been examined before, so Epilepsy was diagnosed for the first time. For these children detailed examination and drugs were recommended. During the examination, a “tuberous sclerosis complex” was identified for the first time in a child at the age of one and a half months, in which the heart rhabdomyoma was already confirmed. In addition, on the skin of a child there were shegren spots.
At the very beginning of the event, a lecture was organized for parents of children about features of an epilepsy, first aid measures for seizures. Informational booklets and purple bracelets were given for every child. The motto of the day was the expression “Umit Uzbe – Do not lose hope”, and the symbol – a baby deer with a purple bow. Also on this day, doctors, parents and children played a lot, painted, participated in competitions. The best drawings were played out and colorful gifts were presented to all children, as well as delicious pancakes with a baby deer
