My name is Giulia, I am 23 years old, I was born and raised in Italy and I am currently attending a degree course in molecular biotechnology in Vienna. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 17 and it is still difficult to understand its origin. After years of trying to fight prejudice and dogma against this disease, I met people who made me better understand the value of my life, which is high and incorruptible and worth much more than the dosage of medication I take daily or the number of seizures I have.
I think that epilepsy has a strong social impact and lowers the quality of life, because of the side effects of the medication, but also because of the stress that comes with it and the limitations that are bored even if I think, that with an educational intervention, these limitations could be reduced. Through my experience I would like to try to help other people, because I was the first to be helped and I continue to be helped and I would also like to make people understand that epilepsy is much more than a seizure and that patients are much more than their epilepsy.
