Purple Day for Epilepsy
Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. Every year on March 26th, people from around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness. Purple Day was founded in 2008 by Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia Canada. Motivated by her own struggles with epilepsy, Cassidy started Purple Day to let others know that they were not alone and to get people talking about epilepsy in an effort to dispel myths and erase the stigma. In 2009, Cassidy Megan and the Epilepsy Association of The Maritimes joined forces with The Anita Kaufmann Foundation to launch Purple Day internationally. As global sponsors, the Anita Kaufmann Foundation and The Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes along with Purple Day founder Cassidy Megan are committed to partnering with individuals and organizations worldwide. Their combined efforts have led to the involvement of numerous organizations, schools, businesses, politicians and celebrities around the world. They continue with their commitment to partnering with individuals and organizations around the world to promote epilepsy awareness while offering advocacy, support and resources.
“I want you to know that you are not alone, feel free to message me though any of my Purple Day social platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, anytime if you have questions or simply need to talk to someone who gets it. Epilepsy does not define us, it can be tough but we are tougher. We are all on this journey together and together we are all helping to make the world a kinder and safer place for all of us living with epilepsy. Please join us in wearing purple on March 26 to support epilepsy awareness worldwide”.
